Night Club

a multi-partner project co-commissioned
by Wellcome Trust and the Co-Op

Night Club is the third in a series of ongoing collaborations with The Liminal Space & The Welcome Trust, providing both interactive concept design and sound design: Exploring how we can share new scientific research with the public and with company employee’s in thoughtful, fun and engaging ways; generating conversations outside the confines of medical research and genuinely serving to help audiences with their lives.

Night Club with The Liminal Space

A Multi-partner project co-commissioned by Welcome Trust & Co-Op, bringing leading sleep researchers from University of Oxford together with Co-Op, John Lewis Group, Thames Water and during Lockdown with Veolia, who are all keen to explore ways to support their large cohort of night shift workers.

Distribution Centre’s across UK

CO-OP residency

As part of the Nightclub project Thor undertook a residency research project touring to each of CO-OPs distribution centre’s, documenting, discussing and exploring the hidden world of the 24hr Distribution hubs that keep our consumer society in operation.

The latest research has shown that issues around sleep and sleep health are having a negative impact on workers’ jobs and wider lives. The Wellcome Trust enlisted our help to explore the subject of sleep and shift work, and how we might make a healthier 24-hour workforce.

Night Club tours in a shipping container and offers an intriguing versatile space, where warehouse operatives come together to learn, discuss and engage through an immersive experiential space & venue for a rolling workshop program incl: expert clinics, light based experiments, chronotyping activities, sound installations and midnight feast.

We interviewed a whole range of night-shift workers and sleep scientist and created an interactive sound installation that gave voice to their issues and answers to their questions and even some sleep training exercises.

One in eight people work nights in Britain, and are essential to the running of our 24-hour society

As a result of Night Club, Co-op are planning to review working practices on the night shift and with support from The Wellcome Trust, the project will be extending the reach and impact through partnerships with other major UK employers. - This campaign is set to keep rolling on and on.
