A collaborative project with Thor McB and wildlife sound-recording artist Chris Watson
linking artist residencies in two countries
that span the migration of a starling colony.

Commissions:

Artist in Residence @ The West Pier, Brighton, UK.
South East Arts
Artist in Residence @ the Fylkingen Intermedia Arts Centre, Stockholm, Sweden
.

The Source:

The starling winter roost site
@ the West Pier in Brighton, England

The exhibition:

The summer-time migratory destination of the starlings in Sweden @ The Fylkingen Centre of
New Music and Intermedia Art, Stockholm.

The artists tracked the changing atmosphere of the West piers concert hall and the starling roost, by day and night via both sound and photography.

The sound recording incorporated up to
8 different microphones at once to obtain both a unique 3D perspective and to collect various different sonic perspectives simultaneously.

Realised in Stockholm with the Swedish lighting engineer Fredrik Lundström.

The periphonic audio system:

Utilising 8 distinct channels of sound, over a quadrant of 4 floor & 4 overhead speakers to create a complete 3D arena of surround sound.

The multi-channel recordings were edited in-situ to create a truly 3D dynamic composition.
During 1 hour, viewers passed through 24 hrs of sonic & luminary environs of the West Pier.
